huh huhuh huh

I've had this locket for a while but never put any pictures in it because I couldn't think of what I could possibly want to keep close to my heart. Last week, it came to me.

K is for Kristin

thrifted bow-neck blouse, mint skirt, K cardigan, and grey belt, old navy flats

Even if I didn't love this cardigan I wouldn't have been able to leave it behind in the Repeats costume room. WHAT ARE THE ODDS??

My Kijiji addiction has paid off in the form of this amazing mid-century sofa and chair.

SIXTY DOLLARS for the set! Amazing. I'm picking it up next Saturday! Anyone want to take my old stained lumpy futon? eh??

in the bag

I don't know if this is a popular opinion but I LOVE what's in my bag posts. And packing posts! They satisfy this weird curiosity I have about what people haul around with them. Anyway, without further ado:

The bag is, of course, my old Dooney & Bourke. The contents:

1. A glow-in-the-dark Nativity set
2. a tooth cleaning syringe... thing. I was in MAJOR pain last week because of a wisdom tooth. I thought there might be an infection so I rushed over to the dentist and it turns out the pain is totally normal and I have to just deal with it. But they gave me this thing that you fill with water and squirt at the tooth. To clean it? I dunno. I haven't used it.
3. Revlon Tutti Frutti lip butter
4. My Shoppers Optimum card that went rogue in my purse
5. $11.30
6. A rolled rim from Tim Horton's, worth one free donut
7. My Poketo wallet, I can't remember who the artist is though!
8. My iPhone, my life
9. An adorable mug a friend gave me. Look how cute it is! eee

Every time I see a "What's in my bag" post I'm like

because there's no way you emptied your purse to have the contents just photogenically cascade out like that. Come on! These are all the receipts I amassed from the WEEK I've been carrying this purse again.

So there's the contents of my purse. I hope it was an enriching experience for you. I know my cat was super interested because she would not leave me alone when I was taking photos.

i'm sailing away

thrifted skirt, belt and tights, hand-me-down top, old navy loafers

This top is so old and so worn. I got it from Aimee years and YEARS ago. It's reached that perfect softness a shirt can only get when you wear the crap out of it. Here is it again! from February 2009:

I know I haven't been blogging long, but I have all these old-school outfit photos because of communities like Newest Wrinkle. I read through some archives last night and it got me all nostalgic. I wish community-based blogging like that still existed and was as active and bumpin' as it was 4 years ago, but I'm not sure it can now that everyone and their kid has their own monetized blog. Say blog again.

tutti frutti

h&m floral dress, thrifted peter pan collar top, denim jacket and dooney & bourke bag, old navy flats, hardware store scarf (yes, they sell scarves) and revlon lip butter in "tutti frutti"

I saw buds on a magnolia tree today! Spring!! Flowers!!!

These Lip Butters are all the rage, I guess, but for good reason because they're pretty neat. This one is bright orange in the tube, which is a lil scary, but I think it looks alright on.

I'm on a hunt for a plain denim or chambray dress like the one on the right, so I can DIY those jewels on ("do it yourself those jewels on" yeah that makes sense as a sentence).

I would just buy this one but it's Mulberry and it's a thousand dollars. hahahhahahahhahahhahahah yeah right.

all weather leather

joe fresh coat, skirt, top and cardigan, thrifted dooney & bourke purse, belt, tights and locket, old navy loafer

Springtime = time to bust out my old Dooney & Bourke. I've found a few D&B bags over the years but this is the only one I've held on to. I'm really particular about bags and this has the best shape, colour, strap, etc. And the leather is so thick that I can't hear my phone ringing when it's zipped up. I found it for 5 dollars at a yard sale but I'd have no qualms handing over $50+ for one on Etsy if anything ever happens to this one.

I've had this jacket about as long as my purse, maybe longer. I hadn't realized how... "aged" it's gotten was until I dug up this old photo from 3 years ago. It had to have been brand new here, because I remember switching out the buttons as fast as I could.

Feel free to lol at my tiny old cat eye glasses...

snow day

joe fresh dress, hue tights, thrifted top, belt and necklace, marks work wearhouse socks (lol)

I did wear shoes today, I swear. I have my Docs on out in public, because THIS happened overnight

You get a socks photo because I'm tired of wearing my boots inside for outfit photos and tracking in salt/mud and having to sweep all the time. Call the cops!!

running up that hill

thrifted floral romper, etienne aigner belt, ring, necklace and booties, old navy cardigan

I liberated my spring/summer clothes from storage last night. Now my closet has like, 10 times as much floral as it used to. This romper was in there. Kind of a dumb decision on my part to classify it as summer clothes, because even though it's cute and bright it's pure rayon. A rayon romper on a humid summer day is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. So uncomfortable. It's almost as bad as walking around with a droopy-crotched pair of tights. ahhhh... ANYWAY, it's totally fine in colder weather with tights though! And now since I took out all my warm weather clothes, it snowed! You can blame me guys, it's all my fault.

texas forever

old navy dress, joe fresh hoodie, thrifted denim jacket and cowboy boots

Whenever I wear cowboy boots with a dress I ALWAYS think of this scene from Friday Night Lights. I never loved Lyla's style in this series (or... anyone's, though that's not the point of FNL) but this stuck with me.

She looks so cute! So simple! So all up on Tim Riggins! Who wouldn't be jealous?

great american moments of maybe

thrifted skirt, loafers and christian dior tights, dynamite top

Thanks to Erin, I no longer have scraggly overgrown hair. Yay!!

I had a very good thrifting day today after my haircut. I found this perfect black skirt, the loafers, and the sandals and boots in this photo. I picked up a couple pairs of (surpringly well-made and comfy!) shoes at Old Navy this week too. Look at 'em all. Nice shoes.

For some reason I never heard of China, IL until a couple days ago. Which is really weird because I LOVED watching Brad Neely videos in college and considered myself a big fan. I dunno how it slipped past me. So I watched it all in a day and now I'm having a great time re-watching all my old favourites. Like this:

That song is going to be the first dance song at my wedding.

a tree that grows hearts

joe fresh top, thrifted skirt, necklace, belt and shoes, hue tights

Happy International Women's Day! I'm proud to be a woman and feminist. I'm grateful for the woman who fought for the rights I have today, and those continuing the fight today.

hungry heart

thrifted pom pom hat, leopard print shirt, angora sweater, ring, clip and doc martens, old navy rockstar jeggings

I think I fixed my colour issue by using jpgs instead of RAW files. Isn't RAW supposed to be awesome? What's happening!!

Anyway, I don't actually wear hats inside too often because it feels weird and wrong, but I like this hat I wear to keep my ears warm outside so I like to pop it into outfit photos every so often. It's also covering the spectacular hack job I did on my bangs the other night. Don't cut your own bangs! Even if you've been cutting them yourself for three years with no dire repercussions! One day they will turn on you.

remix to the remix to ignition

thrifted joe fresh skirt, gap sweater, peter pan blouse, pin, ring and doc martens, sally hansen "blue me away" nail colour

A term that doesn't seem to stick around much these days, but has always bothered me, is "remixing." Like, if you've worn something once before, the next time you wear it you credit it as "remixed." Wearing clothes, doing laundry, and wearing them again is How You Wear Clothes! It doesn't need a fancy term for it. Anyway. I've worn all these pieces a bunch of time (on and off the blog) because I like them and want to wear them a lot. Except for the Doc Martens. I hope you're not tired of them because I'm SICK of them and can't wait until all the snow melts and I can wear something else on my feet.

PS My photos are still kinda screwy on the colour-front. I should probably fix that eh.

mushroom hunting

gogo vintage dress, hue tights, thrifted doc martens and strawberry necklace

WOW the colours in these photos are screwy. Any advice? I'm no pro at photo editing but I swear these looked better before I uploaded them to Flickr.

This is nerdy but this dress reminds me of a line at the end of a Harry Potter book, before Harry returns to Privet Drive and predicts that it will be "hot and leafy" which I always thought was the a great way to describe warm weather. This dress is hot and leafy! If it made a sound it would sound like that annoying bug that makes the long high-pitched buzzing noise. ...Thank God it doesn't though.
